Laurence Stirling Knott is a British voice actor and audiobook narrator from Staffordshire in the West Midlands of the United Kingdom. Drawn to worlds rich with history and adventure by his love of role-playing games such as The Elder Scrolls and Assassin's Creed, Laurence fully embodies each character, with reviewers praising his ability to flawlessly shift between a wide range of character voices whilst delivering emotionally authentic performances, "allowing the audience to follow a complex narrative easily."

As an English history enthusiast and self-taught guitarist with a degree in Professional Musicianship, Laurence also focuses on non-fiction covering topics such as music performance, business, history and education. From his home studio, he has produced seven fiction audiobooks, including the banter-filled fantasy series The Envoys of Chaos by Dave Lawson in which Laurence was able to put his classic flavour of British sarcasm to good use.

Laurence resides in Staffordshire, West Midlands, United Kingdom where, like a comfortable little hobbit, he has lived all his life. Unlike most hobbits however, he loves to travel, explore new places and practice regional accents. Aside from audiobooks, Laurence also acts in video games and audio dramas. He spends his free time on this mortal plane composing music, especially cinematic and orchestral pieces.

The "Life Story"

Laurence was born on the 9th June 2000 to a mother from Stafford and a father from East London. Descending from a line of brass musicians on his father's side, he was surrounded by music, media and his grandfather's many — many — stories throughout his childhood. As a child, he had a strong passion for films & video games, and dreamt of being an actor or composer, often imagining himself in various fantastic scenarios whilst listening to his favourite film scores. At fifteen years old, he started teaching himself to play the guitar, developing an on-going, deep passion for music and the arts.

In 2016, Laurence enrolled into a Music Performance course at Stafford College. He performed as a guitarist and bassist in several bands at venues such as the O2 Academy 3. He composed music, learnt how to utilise studios, equipment and Digital Audio Workstations (all of which would come to serve him well in time as a voice actor), and he increased his knowledge of music theory and the music business. He also won awards for his commitment to his studies despite the obstacle of a significant personal family tragedy at this time.

Upon graduating from Stafford College in 2018, Laurence enrolled into the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM), Birmingham, undertaking a Professional Musicianship course. Here, he expanded his knowledge and skills with the help of incredibly talented industry professionals, learning invaluable knowledge about performance practices, recording practices, the business side of the music industry and deep levels of music theory and analysis. With the help of one of his tutors, Louise Warren, Laurence also found his desire to act returned in the form of voiceovers. Louise's greatly appreciated guidance and support steadily opened doors for Laurence as he began performing in various audio dramas and indie projects before being introduced to SkillsHub.life in 2023 upon meeting Jennifer Hale at MCM Comic-Con Birmingham.

Through SkillsHub.life Laurence more deeply engaged with the amazing world of the VO/VA community, and greatly improved his skills, for which he is eternally grateful. In 2024 — as a result of this amazing resource developed by Jennifer Hale, Carren Dujela and Bill Reid — Laurence began voice acting for video games, such as Coreupt, and narrating audiobooks for independent authors and rightsholders via the ACX platform.

Since then, he has narrated and produced seven audiobooks primarily in the fantasy genre - his favourite genre of fiction.

In 2025, he fell in love with the art of audiobook narration and honed his craft and understanding of the audiobook industry further with the help of invaluable workouts and workshops offered by Chris Ciulla, Christina Delaine and Matt Godfrey at Leonardo Audio. Now, he's hungry to bring more audiobooks to life and looks forward to working closely with producers and rightsholders for many years to come!

BIOGRAPHY

Factoids

Laurence has a long running love of roleplaying games. He is currently playing The Witcher: Enhanced Edition and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. He also has over ten years of retail experience in customer service roles, which altogether means he knows how to act really well!

Wait... We said the quiet part out loud...

As a huge Formula One enthusiast, Laurence's father gave him the middle name Stirling after the racing driver Sir Stirling Moss. His father actually wrote a letter to Sir Stirling Moss to tell him and received a response!

Laurence means "from Laurentum" or "laurel crowned". Considering Laurence does not own a crown and Laurentum was an Ancient Roman city that no longer exists, he would like to take this moment to remind you that he is in fact a crownless, working-class man from Stafford, which is considerably more boring.

Laurence has unhealthy obsessions for many video game franchises, but he has an especially unhealthy obsession for Capcom's hit horror series, Resident Evil. So much so that not only does he own all of the games, novels, films and board games, but he also owns a life-size bust of the very unsightly "Licker", which he thinks is gorgeous! He also co-founded The Resident Evil Collective, a Facebook fan group with over 14,000 members.

Laurence is a miniature painter! By which we mean he paints miniature figures. He is, as a matter of fact, about 6ft tall.

Laurence learnt to swim as an adult and is not ashamed to admit it. We all have our weaknesses. We all have things we feel we ought to know how to do but don't. It is important to remember, and to remind others, that it is never too late to learn something new.

Laurence is a member of the voice acting YouTube channel, Dang Awesome Walla. DAW dub video games without original voice acting for fun!

Laurence once finished Thief: The Dark Project on the highest difficulty, which we guess he considers some kind of achievement because he won't shut up about it.

Laurence likes speaking about himself in the third-person.

Laurence owns one of these and he thinks it's pretty dang awesome! The PureArts exclusive edition he owns only had a run of 100 produced.
